Middle School Math Teacher

Qualifications:
 
• Valid Georgia professional certification in the assigned teaching field, Math (6-12), preferred
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics in the age group assigned
• Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum
• Knowledge of current educational research.
• Basic understanding and knowledge of technology
• Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles
• Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others
• Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness 
• Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively and analyze test data to inform instruction
• Ability to maintain student supervision to provide a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning  
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues, administrators, and other stakeholders

Principal and other authorized administrators
 
Job Goal:
To provide an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and psychological growth, and maturation in accordance with system philosophy, goals, and objectives.
 
Supervises:
Paraprofessionals if assigned to teacher and/or grade level

Performance Responsibilities:
• Demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, pedagogical knowledge, and the needs of students by providing 
   relevant learning experiences.
• Plans using state and local school district curricula and standards, effective strategies, resources, and data to address the differentiated 
   needs of all students.
• Promotes student learning by using researched-based instructional strategies relevant to the content to engage students in active learning 
   and to facilitate the students’ acquisition of key knowledge and skills.
• Challenges and supports each student’s learning by providing appropriate content and developing skills which address individual learning 
   differences.
• Systematically chooses a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment strategies and instruments that are valid and 
   appropriate for the content and student population.
• Systematically gathers, analyzes, and uses relevant data to measure student progress, to inform instructional content and delivery   
   methods, and to provide timely and constructive feedback to both students and parents.
• Provides a well-managed safe and orderly environment that is conducive to learning and encourages respect for all.
• Creates a student-centered, academic environment in which teaching and learning occur at high levels and students are self-directed 
   learners. 
• Exhibits a commitment to professional ethics and the school’s mission, participates in professional growth opportunities to support student 
   learning, and contributes to the profession.
• Communicates effectively with students, parents or guardians, district and school personnel, and other stakeholders in ways that enhance 
   student learning.
• Performs all other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
 
Terms of Employment:
• Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved salary formula.  Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.
 
Evaluation:
• Performance of this job will be evaluated by the principal.
