Job Description: Elbert’s Lighthouse (GNETS) Teacher


Reports to: High School Administration, Site Coordinator, Lighthouse, and Special Education Director


Compensation:  Local Teacher salary scale 


Qualifications:

-Valid Georgia teaching certification in Genreral and/or Adapted Special Education  is preferred

-Successful classroom experience working with students with challenging behaviors preferred 

 

Job Goal:

To teach students with challenging behaviors in a public school program setting while teaching them replacement skills to transition back into their traditional school environment

 

Position Status: Certified

 

Certification: General Education Curriculum   Preferably: Dual Certification in Adaptive and General Curriculum

 

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Uses a computer-based program to deliver instruction to support individual needs when applicable
  • Utilizes deescalation & physical restraint techniques when necessary
  • Creates and participates in the Crisis Response Teams
  • Plans and implements individualized education programs (IEP) in the therapeutic classroom
  • Visits schools for consultation and program planning regarding the needs of students
  • Supervises teacher assistants and other staff assigned to the therapeutic classroom
  • Assesses students to determine educational or developmental status
  • Participates in intake and staffing process for referred children
  • Conducts weekly staff planning with other members of the treatment team to evaluate the progress of children in the program
  • Interacts with staff, students, administrators, and parents in a professional manner
  • Maintain accurate student records for behavior, attendance, and IEP goal data collection and provide feedback to students, parents, and faculty
  • Use and knowledge of universal screeners 
  • Communicate with parents and staff regarding student’s emotional and educational progress
  • Responsible for periodic data collection on children in therapeutic classrooms to evaluate student's progress toward individual goals
  • Conducts and revises functional behavioral assessments and implements behavior intervention plans
  • Teaches students best practices through the use of Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Abide by IDEA and Georgia Special Education Rules & Regulations
  • Uses Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) within the classroom
  • Differentiated Instruction
  • Learn the graduation requirements
  • Maintain a positive environment and modeling positive behavior
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the director may, from time to time, assign or delegate
